“Minus nine, no wind, and the hill had gone the same colour as the sky. I waited for the tree to stop being the only thing there.”

Lea Baumgartner, on the slope above Alt St. Johann, February 2024

Baumgartner works on foot through the Toggenburg in the months most people leave it, with one camera and one lens. This is the first photograph from her snow series we have printed large: the 110 cm print holds the fine branches without a trace of grain, which is why it is the size she prefers.

Which size suits a living room?

Over a sofa of 200–240 cm, the 110 × 80 framed print sits at about half its width and holds the wall alone. The 70 × 50 works on a narrower wall or in a pair. The wall planner checks it against your width.

Will it fade in daylight?

Pigment on cotton rag behind museum glass is rated for well over a lifetime indoors. Keep it out of direct afternoon sun, as you would a watercolour.

Why is the white of the paper not pure white?

The rag paper has no optical brighteners, so its white is very slightly warm and stays that way. The snow in the photograph is printed a touch cooler, which is what gives it depth.

Can I choose my edition number?

Ask when you reserve. If the number is still unsold in your size we keep it for you; birthdays and house numbers are the usual requests.

Hang it
